Southern Guitar Festival and Competition 2012

Mission statement: 

The Southern Guitar Festival and Competition is an inaugural event that will bring world-caliber guitarists to Columbia, South Carolina. Our mission is to inspire and educate guitar professionals as well as amateurs. SGFC will encompass concerts, masterclasses, lectures, and an international competition.

What makes us stand out among the crowd?

The entire event will be hosted and partially sponsored by Columbia College, which will enable us to host the participants on campus and provide meals for an affordable price. We strive to create an inspiring and intimate atmosphere between the participants and artists.

Categories and prizes

(prizes amount are subject to change) 

Free choice program for all divisions.

 All performing selections must be memorized.

Division I: College/Professional (no age limit)

Each competetor will have 9 minutes to play in the qualifying round.

Seven players will be selected to compete in the final round. Each finalist will perform 15 min of music.

The winners will be selected upon the completion of the final round.

The winner in the Division I will be invited back in Fall 2012  to play a solo recital for honorarium of $500.

1st place -  $750 + $500 concert honorarium (paid after the concert in Fall)
2nd place - $400

3rd place-   $200

Division II: Grades 6 - 12( as of May 2012)
(Program: -5 minutes, one round only )
1st place - $150
2nd place -$100

Division III: Grades 1-5 (as of May 2012)
(Program: 3 minutes, one round only )
1st place - $75

2nd place- $50

3rd  place- $35
